My enthusiasm for Woodwork and Building has brought me to create this workshop to support and empower women.
Over the years I have spoken to many people about being a qualified carpenter and licensed builder and what that work entails. Women in particular express a wish to learn skills to enable them to carry out projects around their homes and to make things out of wood.
I can understand their desire; it is very satisfying to create something beautiful and useful with your own hands. Here at Two Sheds Workshop you will learn new skills and to use tools, and you will gain confidence, satisfaction, and meet some wonderful, likeminded women in the process.
I am a qualified carpenter and joiner and a licensed builder and I have 30 years experience working with wood and building. I have a Cert IV in Training and Assessment and have taught woodwork and carpentry to adults and children in schools and various government funded programs. I have also worked with Work Experience students and apprentices on site.
I bring a passion to the topics of woodwork and building. My aim is to demystify the skills and processes. I believe an obstacle for women is their confidence to have a go, and maybe the need for a bit of guidance and encouragement – Two Sheds Workshop provides the place to do this.
I am also passionate about getting more women into Trades and for me this starts with teaching children that girls can do anything….they can do woodwork and so we teach girls and boys together to change the culture from the ground up. As teachers we come in behind their enthusiasm to create and give them tools and skills. We show them how to build and how to work hard. The sky is the limit for these young minds and hands to become creators and builders of the future.
